Maternal Moving - Pup Retrieval
Overview and Meaning
Individual newborn pups rarely stray on their own from a warm nest. If a pup is separated from the litter the dam will later locate, retrieve, and move the lost pups back to the nest, in response to their ultrasonic cries.
Description
The dam will pick up a mouse pup using her mouth and physically move it from outside to inside the nest.
