Drinking

Overview and Meaning

Drinking is a maintenance behavior, that functions to maintain the physiological stasis, comfort, and appearance of the mouse.

Description

The animal rears up and licks the nozzle of the drinker.

Drinking can be distinguished as follows:

  1. Observe carefully, because sometimes the mouse may appear to be drinking but will be biting at the nozzle instead.
  2. When the view of the water nozzle is obstructed, the appearance of air bubbles in the water bottle help determine if the mouse is drinking.
